3. Plaza de la Virgen — The Heart of Historic Valencia

This is where the soul of Valencia beats.

Three eras meet here: Roman, Muslim, and Christian.

The square once housed the Roman forum of Valentia of the Edetani (founded in 138 BC).

Here you will find:

  • The Cathedral of Valencia, home of the Holy Grail, considered by many to be the authentic chalice used at the Last Supper.
  • The Basilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken, the beloved patron saint of the city.
  • The Turia Fountain, which symbolizes the river and its eight irrigation ditches.

Every Thursday at noon, the Water Tribunal, the oldest court in Europe (dating back to the 9th century), meets here. It is recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
