2. Serranos Towers — The Historic Gates of the City

  • Built at the end of the 14th century (1392–1398) as one of the main gates of Valencia, the Serranos Towers were part of the fortified walls that once surrounded the city.
  • Its name comes from the road that led to the mountainous region of the Serranía.
  • Over the centuries they served multiple purposes: receiving ceremonial entries of royalty, defending the city, and later functioning as a prison for nobles. Interestingly, prisoners were allowed to have furniture, books, and even servants.
  • From the top you get one of the best panoramic views of Valencia: the rooftops of the old town and the green corridor of the Turia Gardens stretching out below your feet.
